ICDP donates to Akuapim Vocational Training Institute

Placeholder image The International Child Development Program (ICDP), a non-governmental organization on Friday, 16th June, 2023 supported the Akuapim Vocational Training Institute (AKVTI) at Kitase with a donation of sports and cultural equipment to the school to boost their morale in extra curriculum activities. The items presented included footballs, maracas, set of drums, basketballs, whistles, rims and net).

Present were Ms. Lydia Akueteh (MCD), Madam Barbara A. Yeboah (Principal AKVTI), Mrs. Joyce Lanyo (ICDP country Director), Nana Adwoa Afriyie Bonsu (ICDP Programs Manager), Mr. Tetteh, Lydia Ampofo, Daniel Agboku, Dennis Dela Lou Dogah and Ethel Aknik (officers of ICDP), Nana Kwame Agyei (Mrantehene of Kitase) and Mrs. Matilda Quianoo (Former Cultural Coordinator of Akuapim South).

The Principal of the Institute, Madam Barbara A. Yeboah said her outfit together with the Assembly were trying to put everything education in place and encouraged ICDP to continue supporting the school as sports, equally important as education could potentially make students achieve in various disciplines.

Mrs. Joyce Lanyo said her organization was in the municipality to empower girls through menstrual hygiene. She also reiterated that sports and cultural activities could also be used to empower girls hence the donation. She assured students to take their students seriously and that they have not missed their way in opting for technical vocational education as it’s the main stay of advanced countries.

Ms. Lydia Akueteh on her part encouraged students to make maximum use of the items donated and also assured that the Akuapim South Municipal Assembly will continue to collaborate with ICDP to empower the girl child.

The institutes library which was furnished kind courtesy of the Adu-Aryee family was also commissioned on the day. This was through the effort of one of the teachers of the school Mr. Nii Ayi Adu-Aryee who happens to be their son.

In thanking the family for their kind gesture, Madam Barbara A. Yeboah said her intent was to have books for children under 12 years so they could come in at least once a week to read to improve their reading skills hence, asked for more book donation from well-wishers.

Nana Kwame Agyei also thanked the Adu-aryee family and encouraged students to make good use of the library.
